Weekes New Testament
The Weekes New Testament is a distinct English rendering of the late nineteenth century, belonging to the wave of independent translations that followed the Revised Version. In the decades after that revision, a number of individual scholars and clergymen issued their own versions, often seeking to bring the language of scripture closer to contemporary usage or to reflect advances in the study of the Greek text. Weekes's work is confined in scope to the New Testament, which it renders from the Greek, taking the Greek New Testament as its base text. Its philosophy is described as critical and modernizing, and it is classed as a fresh translation rather than a revision of an existing English text. Among its distinguishing characteristics is its limited long-term circulation; like many private translations of the period, it did not achieve wide or lasting use, and it is chiefly of interest to students of the history of the English Bible.
