Interactive Timeline & Reading List
In Short
No sign-in. You can use the timeline and reading list freely — no account, no login, no email, no password.
No personal data collection. We do not collect, store, or sell personal information about you, and we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking.
Only anonymous page counts. The only thing we measure is a simple, anonymous tally of how many times pages are viewed. These counts are aggregate and are not linked to your identity.
A little information is saved in your own browser to make features like the reading list work. It stays on your device, and you can clear it anytime.
What the Timeline Stores on Your Device
To make the timeline convenient, a small amount of information is saved locally in your web browser. This stays on your computer or phone — it is not a cookie, it is not sent to us, and it is not shared with anyone unless you choose to share it.
Your reading list — saved until you clear it
When you add works to your reading list, that list is saved in your browser’s local storage. Because it’s saved locally, your list is still there when you come back later, even after closing the browser. It contains only the items you added — nothing about you.
Your current view — temporary
As you zoom, pan, and select authors or works, the timeline briefly remembers your position so the view is restored if you navigate away and return in the same tab. This is stored as session data and is automatically erased when you close the tab or browser.
No cookies
The timeline does not set any cookies.
Things That Only Happen When You Click
A few features act on your device, but only when you choose to use them:
Copy / Share link — copies text or a shareable web link to your clipboard. A share link contains your reading list encoded inside the web address itself, so only the people you send the link to can see it. Nothing is uploaded to us.
CSV — downloads your reading list as a spreadsheet file to your device.
Free ↗ and Buy ↗ links — open other websites in a new tab. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we don’t control.
How to Clear What’s Stored
You’re always in control of the information saved in your browser.
Clear your reading list (easiest):
Open the 📚 List menu on the timeline and choose Clear. This immediately removes your saved reading list.
Clear the temporary view memory:
Simply close the browser tab — the timeline’s view memory is erased automatically.
Clear everything for this site (in your browser settings):
Chrome / Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and site data → see data for exchanged.store → Delete / Clear.
Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data → search exchanged.store → Remove Selected.
Safari (Mac): Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data → search exchanged.store → Remove.
Safari (iPhone/iPad): Settings app → Safari → Clear History and Website Data.
Most browsers: the “Clear browsing data” tool, with Cookies and other site data selected, also removes it.
Clearing this data simply empties your reading list and view memory — it does not affect your ability to keep using the timeline.
What We Do Not Do
We do not require or offer accounts for the timeline.
We do not ask for or store your name, email, or any personal details to use it.
We do not use advertising networks, social-media trackers, or cross-site profiling.
We do not sell or share personal information.
The information the timeline saves never leaves your device on its own.
