Expanded Bible
The Expanded Bible is a distinct English Bible text that embeds alternate translations, literal renderings, and explanatory glosses directly in line with the text, so that readers encounter interpretive options within the flow of a verse rather than in footnotes. It covers the complete Bible, drawing on the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek sources together with the English New Century Version, its predecessor and base translation; the base text consists of a modified New Century Version supplemented by alternatives. Its translation philosophy pairs that base translation with bracketed alternatives and explanations, placing it in the category of expanded translation, a tradition of study-oriented English versions that seek to convey the range of meaning in the original wording. Its expansion is systematic and translation-oriented, and it is included here despite its hybrid form because it is not presented as a paraphrase.
