Revised New Jerusalem Bible
The Revised New Jerusalem Bible is a comprehensive update of the Jerusalem and New Jerusalem Bible line, a family of Catholic translations that has been widely used in English-speaking Catholic circles since the mid-twentieth century. It presents a complete Catholic Bible, translated from Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek and based on modern critical texts, and it is best categorized as a substantial revision or work of new translation, taking the New Jerusalem Bible as its predecessor and base translation. Its guiding philosophy is to offer a more formal rendering than the New Jerusalem Bible, in modern inclusive English, suitable for proclamation in public reading. Among its distinctive features is the treatment of the divine name: where the New Jerusalem Bible frequently rendered the Tetragrammaton as 'Yahweh,' the revision returns to LORD, aligning it with the older and more common practice of English biblical tradition.
