New Catholic Bible
The New Catholic Bible is an American Catholic translation carried out in stages and completed as a full Bible in 2019. Its scope is the complete Catholic canon, rendered from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek and based on modern critical texts of those languages. It stands within the broader movement, gathering pace in the twentieth century, by which Catholic English versions were prepared directly from the original tongues rather than from the Latin Vulgate. Its translation philosophy aims at a readable modern Catholic idiom, and the work is categorized as a fresh translation rather than a revision of an earlier version, produced through a staged project in which portions appeared before the whole. Among its distinctive features, it is designed for private devotion and study, and is furnished with extensive notes intended to assist readers approaching the text outside a liturgical setting.
