New American Bible
A major revision of the New American Bible's New Testament, this text stands within the tradition of Catholic biblical translation in English in the United States, undertaken under the sponsorship of the American Catholic hierarchy and the scholars associated with the earlier New American Bible. It is a New Testament revision within a complete Bible family rather than a freestanding version, taking the 1970 NAB New Testament as its predecessor and base translation, and it is classified as a substantial revision: the reviewers updated both the textual basis, translating from Greek on the basis of a modern critical Greek New Testament text, and the English style. Its translation philosophy is moderate and contemporary, seeking accuracy without archaism. The revised New Testament proved durable in Catholic use, and it remains the New Testament incorporated into the 2011 New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE).
