Anderson New Testament
The Anderson New Testament is an independent, Greek-based rendering of the New Testament associated with the American Restoration Movement, the reform tradition that arose in the United States with the aim of returning Christian faith and practice to the pattern of the apostolic church. Its scope is limited to the New Testament, and it was translated directly from Greek, taking the Greek New Testament as its base text rather than working from an existing English version. In approach it follows a formal, critical translation philosophy, and it is classified as a fresh translation rather than a revision. Among its distinctive features, it sought accuracy without simply revising the wording of the King James Version, whose phrasing then dominated English-language Scripture. It thus belongs to the broader nineteenth-century movement of individual translators who produced English New Testaments outside the framework of officially sponsored revision.
