Bible
The Second Catholic Edition of the Revised Standard Version is a Catholic-focused revision of the RSV, prepared from the revised RSV Catholic Edition as its base text and drawing on Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and the English RSV as its source languages. It removes archaic pronouns and introduces selected textual and liturgical changes, while retaining the formal-equivalence approach that characterized the RSV tradition, itself descended from the line of English Bibles reaching back to the King James Version. In scope it is a complete Catholic Bible, containing the deuterocanonical books, and it is categorized as a substantial Catholic revision, with the RSV and RSV-CE as its predecessor and base translation. It is not a wholly fresh translation, though it is distinct enough to hold a place in modern Catholic Bible history, and it has been used in Catholic study editions and scholarly reference.
