Plain English Version
The Plain English Version is an English translation shaped for Aboriginal Australian readers whose first languages have structures unlike Standard English, and whose patterns of expression differ from those assumed by conventional English Bibles. In scope it covers Bible portions and New Testament material, drawn from the Hebrew and Greek source languages rather than from an existing English text, and it is accordingly categorised as a fresh translation rather than a revision. Its translation philosophy is meaning-based, rendering the sense of the original in a culturally adapted English intended to be readily understood by its intended readership. The project belongs to the broader tradition of vernacular and simplified-English Scripture work that has accompanied Bible translation in Australia and elsewhere. Within this catalogue it is included as a completeness backstop for coverage of the English translation and revision family.
