Open English Bible
The Open English Bible is a notable open-licensed Bible translation project, developed transparently and iteratively online in the manner of open-source software, with drafts and revisions made publicly available as work proceeds. Its New Testament is complete, while its Old Testament remains substantially incomplete and ongoing. The translation draws on Hebrew and Greek source texts alongside prior open texts, its base text consisting of original-language texts and public-domain predecessors; in its early stages it drew on the Twentieth Century New Testament and other open materials as predecessor and base translation. Guided by a philosophy of readability and open-source availability, it may be categorized as a fresh revision and open collaborative translation, and it belongs to a broader modern movement toward freely licensed scripture texts. Because the text continues to develop, any description of it should cite a particular snapshot or version date.
