New Matthew Bible
The New Matthew Bible is a modern project that revives and updates the textual branch of the 1537 Matthew Bible, that is, the Tyndale-Rogers text, which gathered the translation work of William Tyndale under the editorial hand of John Rogers and stood among the earliest complete English Bibles to circulate with royal permission. Within a broader Bible project, its scope includes the New Testament, and it works from the English of that tradition with consultation of the original languages. Its translation philosophy is one of conservative modernization, chiefly the updating of obsolete vocabulary and spelling rather than fresh rendering from the sources, and it is accordingly classed as a substantial revision or modernization rather than a new translation; its predecessor and base translation is the Matthew Bible, or Tyndale-Rogers text. As a distinctive point, it is included here as a completeness backstop for coverage of English translation and revision families.
