New International Version
Issued as a major revision within Biblica's primary English line, the 2011 New International Version replaced both the 1984 NIV and the TNIV, consolidating two earlier stages of the project into a single current text. It covers the complete Bible, translated from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, and rests on modern critical texts. Its translation philosophy is a mediating one, seeking a balance between functional and formal approaches, in keeping with the aims of the NIV tradition since its mid-twentieth-century beginnings as an interdenominational evangelical undertaking. It is classified as a substantial revision, taking the NIV 1984 and the TNIV as its predecessor and base translations. Among its distinctive features are updates to gender-accurate language, textual decisions, and contemporary English usage. Widely distributed in English-speaking churches, it remains among the most extensively circulated modern English versions.
