Jubilee Bible
An unusual English Bible whose genealogy runs substantially through the Spanish Reina-Valera tradition, the Protestant version that emerged from the Spanish Reformation and became the standard Bible of Spanish-speaking Protestantism. The Jubilee Bible covers the complete Bible, and its source languages are given as Spanish together with Hebrew-Greek reference: the base text is the Spanish Reina-Valera tradition, with consultation of the original languages. Its translation philosophy is formal, carrying a Spanish-Reformation influence, and it is classified as a mediated translation or revision, taking Reina-Valera as both its predecessor and its base translation. Where most English Bibles are produced by committees working directly from Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, the Jubilee Bible reaches English through an intermediary tongue. Its distinctive interest therefore lies in representing a cross-language translation lineage rather than a standard English original-language committee Bible, a characteristic that makes it historically valuable.
