Good News Translation
The 1992 revision of the Good News Translation is a major revision of the Good News Bible, incorporating updated English and revised textual decisions. Taking the Good News Bible / Today's English Version of 1976 as its predecessor and base translation, it is categorised as a substantial revision rather than a light refresh. It covers the complete Bible, translated from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek on the basis of updated critical texts, and follows a dynamic or functional equivalence philosophy — an approach that seeks to render the meaning of the original in natural, contemporary English rather than reproducing its wording word for word. Among its distinctive features, it continues the functional-equivalence method rather than becoming a paraphrase. Produced within the tradition of Bible society translation work aimed at broad accessibility, including readers for whom English is a second language, the Good News Translation became one of the widely circulated English versions of the later twentieth century.
