EasyEnglish Bible
The EasyEnglish Bible is a modern, controlled-vocabulary version of the Christian scriptures intended for English learners and for readers who need very simple language. Rather than adapting an existing English text, it is a fresh translation of the complete Bible, prepared from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek in which the biblical books were originally written. Its translation philosophy combines a controlled vocabulary with functional equivalence, seeking to convey the sense of a passage in wording that remains within a limited word list; a 2024 edition draws on roughly 1,200 common English words. The project belongs to a broader modern movement, developed alongside the global spread of English as a second language, to produce simplified and plain-language Bibles for readers outside the traditional literary register of versions such as the King James Bible. It is used chiefly by learners, teachers, and translators working in cross-cultural settings.
