Catholic Public Domain Version
The Catholic Public Domain Version is an independent Catholic Bible released into the public domain, produced with the aim of providing a freely reusable modern English Catholic text at a time when most contemporary translations remain under copyright. It comprises the complete Catholic Bible, including the deuterocanonical books received in that tradition, and was made by drawing on Latin along with Hebrew and Greek reference, following a formal, Vulgate-influenced translation philosophy that reflects the long-standing place of Jerome's Latin Bible in Western Christianity. It is categorised as a fresh or revised translation rather than a light modernisation of an earlier English version. Notably, it is not an official bishops' conference translation, and so lacks the ecclesiastical standing of texts approved for liturgical use; its circulation has instead been largely through digital distribution, where its open licensing terms allow unrestricted copying, quotation, and adaptation.
