Reina-Valera
The Reina-Valera Revision established the enduring Reina-Valera family of Spanish Protestant translations, and stands as one of the foundational texts of Protestant Bible reading in the Spanish language. A complete Protestant Bible drawing on Hebrew, Greek, and Spanish, it takes as its base text the revised Reina 1569, the version prepared by Casiodoro de Reina, which serves as both its predecessor and its base translation. Its guiding philosophy is that of an original-language Protestant revision, and the work — associated with Cipriano de Valera, whose name it carries alongside Reina's — is classed as a substantial revision rather than a light correction. Its influence has been long-lasting: successive later revisions descend from it and have remained in wide use among Spanish-speaking Protestant communities, though these are not cataloged individually here, since Spanish falls outside this catalogue's English focus.
