New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
The New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition is a large scholarly update of the New Revised Standard Version, incorporating decades of textual and linguistic research undertaken since its predecessor appeared. Taking the 1989 NRSV as its base translation, it is classified as a substantial revision rather than a fresh translation, and it stands within the lineage of English Bibles descending from the Revised Standard Version and, behind that, the King James tradition. In scope it covers the complete Bible, including deuterocanonical editions, and it is translated from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, drawing on updated critical texts and manuscript evidence as its base text. Its translation philosophy combines formal equivalence with inclusive-reference language, continuing the approach for which the NRSV became widely used in academic study and in a broad range of churches. Its copyright is 2021, while many physical editions appeared in 2022.
